RANKUPWITHME WINS IN CATALUNYA AS BARDS LOSES P2 IN A FIGHT AGAINST YESHURRUN AND THE METRIC SYSTEM
Season 24 on A1881 began with a brand-new challenge as the grid took to the F1 26 DLC machinery for the first time, and it was Williams who immediately laid down a marker. Rankupwithme converted a stunning pole position into victory at Catalunya, bringing a new race winner to A1881. Behind him were Yeshurrun and teammate Bards after a strategic race that showcased both pace and tyre management...
The promising Williams duo of Rankupwithme and Bards locked out the front row, while Yeshurrun's McLaren stayed firmly in the fight throughout the race despite running a different strategy. The leading trio remained the benchmark all afternoon, but the final classification did not tell the full story.
Bards actually crossed the line second on track after a strong drive, but a 10-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane dropped him behind Yeshurrun. The rest of the grid was using KPH. while he chose cultural independence and P3...
Rankupwithme's victory was built on adaptability. Starting on soft tyres while most rivals had more conventional options available, he was forced into an early stop as tyre temperatures became difficult to manage. Mediums followed, before a switch to hards allowed him to produce some of his fastest laps right at the end of the race, keeping the charging Bards at bay.
Yeshurrun quietly put together one of the strongest drives of his A1881 career, making a one-stop strategy work and securing second place to begin McLaren's campaign in style.
Behind the podium, two familiar names returned to the grid after long absences. HaggisNT made an impressive comeback in Alpine machinery, finishing fourth after more than ten seasons away, while Cajoco returned with VisaRB and immediately looked competitive on his way to fifth.
Rollie endured a frustrating afternoon in the second Alpine. After battling Rothnz during the opening stint, he found himself largely isolated and unable to match the pace of the front runners. Still, sixth place ensured solid points for the team. Scaparro finished just behind in the Red Bull and was matching Rollie's pace during the closing stages, though the gap had already been established.
Rothnz recovered late-race speed to bring his Ferrari home eighth, while Luca impressed on his full-time debut season in Audi colours, securing a valuable top-ten finish for the new manufacturer. ToxxicElijah rounded out the points after a steady drive that rewarded RedBull despite the smaller-than-usual field.
Fragiletunnel made his A1881 debut and, together with NoirEclipseRacing in the second Audi, demonstrated admirable commitment by completing the demanding 100% race distance. In a season opener featuring one of the lowest attendances seen in over ten seasons, simply reaching the finish carried extra value.
Justin never found the pace that made him so formidable on the previous game and eventually retired from the VisaRB, while Sir Ibbo's race ended unusually early in the McLaren pit lane.
Notably absent were reigning champion Bobow and fellow title contender Energetic, both missing the opener while supporting the Netherlands during their World Cup fixture. Their return in Australia should provide a much clearer picture of the early championship hierarchy.
Rankupwithme interview: "Aah, the whole stadium stoop up for me on the last lap... Feels poetic and damn pleased, also very proud of Yesh and Bards. I didnt have two medium tyres so i had to do softs. Started overheating withing 7 laps. Had to box early (l 15). Did mediums, were slowly chased by bards who pitted later and had newer tyres, then realized yesh is going for a onestop, boxed for hards and felt fantastic on them, somehow i started pulling personal bests out of a hat in the last 4 laps and didnt let the charging bards on softs get closer to me than 2s. Will see how Bobow will set the pace in Australia. We were neck a neck when i had rb and him cadilac in practices. So he might be faster in that haas than williams."
