JORDAN STRIKES BACK AT MONZA AS CHAOS RULES THE SEASON 22 SPRINT WEEKEND

Jordan, AA_Mejg and SV5-3787 were the three names on the podium at Monza, but the Italian Grand Prix of Season 22 Round 2 will be remembered far more for its reshuffled grid with three safety cars...

Jordan converted pole into a crucial win for KICK Sauber, dragging himself straight back into the title conversation after a turbulent opener. Mejg followed him home in second with Haas, backing up his sprint win earlier in the day, while SV5 secured third for VisaRB to keep his championship momentum rolling despite a far messier race than Jeddah.

The sprint itself had already set the tone: Mejg took the win ahead of Jordan and Rian, and Monza with sprint conditions was asking for trouble. The main race barely settled before the safety cars began stacking up, starting with SCR_FTronc retiring at the exit of Ascari on lap 7 after earlier contact with his Red Bull teammate into Turn 1 and carrying damage beforehand.

Jordan managed the restarts well and kept his nose clean through the madness, something not many could say. Mejg stayed close throughout and never let the Sauber escape, while SV5 quietly rebuilt after a compromised early phase to grab another podium and reinforce Racing Bulls’ strong start to the season.

Behind them, Javinwain put together one of his more complete Monza races in the Aston Martin to finish fourth, ahead of NaeDangerDavid who finally got Alpine into calmer waters after recent chaos. Bards recovered strongly from a lowly grid slot, bringing the Williams home sixth after surviving the safety car lottery.

Gordini’s race was anything but quiet. Starting deep in the pack, he made progress but also left debris in his wake, which would later play a role in other drivers’ misfortune. rothNz followed with a solid Ferrari drive in eighth, while Dunce once again showed persistence in the Aston Martin, even if the race never fully came to him.

Scaparro’s Mercedes run summed up Monza’s theme: moments of pace interrupted by spins, damage and unfortunate timing. Rian, who had looked sharp in the sprint, could not replicate that form in the race and slipped down to eleventh after getting caught out in the stop-start flow.

Tvoje_mamkacz’s afternoon was defined by penalties and near-misses rather than pure pace, while Rollie endured one of his most frustrating races in recent memory. Contact with Dunce early on damaged his wing and floor, a Scaparro spin caused further damage, debris from Gordini led to a puncture at the worst possible moment, and a late mistake at the exit of last safety car sealed a long recovery drive that never quite paid off.

Crunchypancake kept it clean in difficult circumstances for Ferrari, Sir Ibbo brought the McLaren home, and Yeshurrun’s race ended early, continuing a rough opening stretch that contrasts with his clear ambition for a stronger car later in the season. Elche was another casualty of the chaos, having another unlucky retirement with crashing into Yeshurrun's spinning car at parabolica; while Selecta’s race effectively ended at the second Lesmo, triggering another safety car after failing to keep the VisaRB on the road.

SCR_FTronc’s earlier retirement was followed by Justin, whose KICK Sauber race never recovered after incidents and positioning issues, and he carries two eggplants now as a possible title contender in pre-season predictions.

With Miami up next, the grid will be hoping for fewer interruptions and more racing rhythm, as Season 22 already feels like it is walking a fine line between spectacle and survival.

Winner interview: Honestly the action was more behind me this race. Except for the braking boards disappearing and causing chaos in T1 I just sat in the lead train and managed tyres and pace. The last SC brought some excitement at the finish, but the overtakes weren’t very dramatic and everyone around me drove cleanly. Was a bit tense in the end but I was able to hold a gap to MEJG just about
