AUSTRIA GP: AA_MEJG SURVIVES LATE SAFETY CAR TO TAKE VICTORY!

Season 17 continued with a dramatic race at the Red Bull Ring, where AA_Mejg clinched his fourth win of the season in a race that was shaken up by a late safety car. The Alpine driver took full advantage of a five-lap sprint to the finish after Javinwain’s retirement, fending off a fierce challenge from RothNz and NaeDangerDavid to extend his championship lead...

The race began under blue skies, with Alpine teammates Rian and AA_Mejg locking out the front row. Rollie started in P3 but quickly found himself swarmed by the chasing pack. A snap from NaeDangerDavid out of Turn 3 saw the VisaRB driver tag the Ferrari, damaging Rollie’s sidepods. Despite his best efforts, the damage worsened over the course of the race, compromising his straight-line speed.

The early laps saw plenty of action, with VisaRB’s NaeDangerDavid, Aston Martin’s Dunce, and Mercedes’ Tvoje_mamkacz all battling for positions. Meanwhile, Selecta, Keon, Quartiux, and Tvoje had their own intense skirmishes, trading places multiple times throughout the race.

As the race unfolded, Rian seemed to have the win in his grasp after undercutting his teammate during the first pit cycle. However, disaster struck when he came up to lap Inginne’s KICK Sauber. Inginne lost control, spinning directly into the path of the Alpine. With no time to react, Rian collided with the stricken car, effectively ending his race. Frustrated, the Alpine driver pulled into the pits and retired, leaving AA_Mejg to inherit the lead.

Just when it seemed the race would cruise to the finish, a late safety car was triggered by Javinwain’s retirement. This set up a thrilling five-lap dash to the checkered flag, with AA_Mejg, RothNz, NaeDangerDavid, Endru, and Jordan all in the mix for the win. The battle was hard but fair, with all five drivers giving it their all. Ultimately, AA_Mejg held firm to secure victory, while RothNz impressed with a strong second-place finish, showing signs of a return to form. NaeDangerDavid completed the podium, fending off Mejg’s title rival Endru, who had fought through the field from 16th on the grid to finish P4 after serving his quali ban.

Dunce, ended up in P5 and continued his strong run of form. Tvoje secured P6 after an eventful race, while Selecta’s race-long duels saw him claim P7. Jordan, despite starting 17th, fought his way up to P8, while Keon and Rollie rounded out the top 10.

Further back, Bhavish endured a frustrating race to finish P11, ahead of Quartiux in P12. TarkanGino brought his Haas home in P13, while Inginne salvaged P14. Sir_Ibbo finished P15, ahead of Crunchypancake in P16. Javinwain and Rian were the two retirements of the race, with Rian’s unlucky incident costing Alpine a potential 1-2 finish.

AA_Mejg reflected on the chaotic race, acknowledging both fortune and fierce competition:

"Today was a lucky win. My teammate Rian and I started from the front row and managed to pull a gap to the rest of the field. We had good teamwork during the first stint. He then made the undercut and took the lead. Unfortunately for him and for the Alpine team, he hit a backmarker who spun under blue flags. Anyway, from that point, it looked like an easy win as I was cruising towards victory. However, the safety car had other plans. The race ended with a 5-car sprint battle to the finish. Very intense, fun battles, and I loved watching it with Ironghost's commentary! PS. shout-out to my fellow Swede Roth who came really close today. Perhaps the old Roth is back!?"

With this result, AA_Mejg strengthens his grip on the championship, now sitting on 244 points, ahead of Endru (176) and RothNz (163). In the Constructors' standings, Alpine extends its lead to 373 points, with VisaRB (330) and Aston Martin (288) chasing behind.

Next up is the Netherlands GP, a full-length challenge that promises even more drama. Be sure to catch all the action live, with the ever-engaging Ironghost bringing the commentary to life once again!
