CAJOCO AND ALTAN GIVE ALPINE THE STRONGEST LAUNCH TO SEASON IN AUSTRIA!
Cajoco won the Austria GP dominantly as expected from his weekday
practice performances. His teammate Altan came second and Alpine have been the
first team to do a double in A1881 since Aston Martin double by Altan &
Dupewar on Netherlands GP in Season 2. Sertackaratepe was extraordinary in
Aston Martin and claimed the third step of the podium…
The race began with a custom grid due to a glitch after
sprint session. Cajoco has led the majority of the race and even though he fell
a few positions back after the pits during the first SC, he was able to climb
in a safe and steady way. Winning his second race in his time in A1881 (first
one was in Suzuka last season), Cajoco was much calmer in the interview: “Very
tough race concentration wise and was trying my best to manage the gap to my
rocket teammate Altan! I got a good start to the race and managed to get out of
DRS before it was enabled early on. When both safety cars came out I pitted
both times and immediately began working towards getting the gap to Altan asap.
The Red Bulls were threatening to spoil our party but Altan did an amazing job
at holding them back. I’m really happy with the Alpine 1-2 and hopefully we can
stay competitive throughout the season!”
Altan picked mediums after the last SC when there were just
8 laps to run, while Atwinke and leading Cajoco fitted softs. Altan was able to
stay in the DRS of Cajoco for a few laps despite tyre disadvantage, yet Cajoco
increased pace and left Altan to deal with Atwinke who was following him.
Atwinke lost control of his Redbull during a close battle with Altan at T3 in last lap,
opening the way to SertacKaratepe his first podium in his first race in the
league.
Atwinke’s half spin also helped Rollie, who was able to
reach P4 in last lap which he never imagined before the entry of the last SC, after
many incidents he was involved in. Tbran got his second 5th place in McLaren in
a row. Atwinke had to settle for P6 even though he was very close to a podium
in last lap. Leegoat seemed very well adjusted to his new Haas and had a good
pace, finished the race on P4 on track yet was classified as P7 due to time
penalties. Shmodus was impressive in Williams, taking P8 despite having rear
wing damage for a long time. Kingdom finished 9th in his Alphatauri and he was
followed by Rothnz, who spent almost a minute to be able to join track safely
and not cause others trouble, but still paid for others’ mistakes. Endru didnt
seem especially quick and finished P11 in his 3rd season in Alfa Romeo, some
say he takes his seat for granted now in the team, while others think it might
be the new cockpit cam he’s using… One of the title contenders, Mrmccann seemed
clumsy throughout the race, and was well behind his teammate at the finish
line, finishing P12. Keon also had his unlucky moments and finished 13th in his
first race after coming back as a full time. Gordini helped fill the grid with
last moment reserving for Tan, and brought Williams 5 points by finishing 14th.
Sir Ibbo and Cmrcnn were the last drivers alive on grid as usual...
Gio retired in his first race in a top car and casted doubts
on his competency about delivering high expectations. Dupewar directly and
Butcher indirectly were Dan’s victim of joining track unsafely, who tried to cope with rear wing damage for a long time yet retired in
pits soon after the incidents he caused…
The Alpine seeming especially strong where Redbull, Mercedes
and Ferrari were underperforming, as we head to the second race of the season
in Azerbaijan next Sunday…
