SV5-3787 CLAIMS FIRST A1881 WIN IN HUNGARY!
The feature race followed an intense sprint earlier in the day, where Mejg won ahead of SV5 and Rian, setting the tone for a strategic battle. In the main race, Mejg looked on course to control proceedings after starting from pole, but his two-stop strategy came undone one lap too late. That single lap proved decisive, allowing SV5 to execute a perfectly judged one-stop in the Mercedes and emerge just ahead in the closing moments. It was a calm, controlled drive under pressure and a breakthrough moment for a driver who has been knocking on the door all season.
Behind them, Bards produced a standout drive for Williams. Coming into the weekend after welcoming a daughter just a day earlier, he turned emotion into performance and secured his first podium of the season, drawing warm reactions across the paddock. Javinwain followed in fourth with a solid Red Bull run, quietly maximizing pace and staying out of trouble in a race where incidents were costly.
Gordini crossed the line fifth in the Ferrari after a race-long duel with Dunce. The pair traded positions and pressure throughout, but Gordini kept it clean and decisive, while Dunce brought the Aston Martin home sixth. Dunce was fortunate to escape damage late on when teammate Rollie launched an ambitious dive, an incident that summed up the fine margins of the race. Rollie continued but suffered underbody damage, limiting him to seventh, while Selecta, the innocent bystander in the clash, lost a wing yet still dragged his Mercedes to eighth.
Visa RB also featured in ninth through Mamoodev, stepping in as a reserve and scoring valuable points in Jordan’s absence. While Racing Bulls remain in control of the Constructors’ Championship, missing this race hurt Jordan in the drivers’ title fight, especially with Mejg continuing to pile on pressure at the top. Tvoje_mamkacz finished tenth for Ferrari after a quiet but tidy race, getting annoyed by Rollie's old-man defence. He was followed by Crunchypancake in the McLaren, who kept things steady amid the chaos.
Yeshurrun once again impressed with consistency in his rookie season, bringing the Kick Sauber home twelfth ahead of teammate Sir Ibbo. Both stayed out of the major incidents and capitalized on attrition ahead. The retirements were Scaparro, Inginne, and Rian. Scaparro showed what might have been his strongest pace in A1881 to date in the McLaren before a costly mistake damaged his front wing and later the rear wing, forcing retirement. Inginne’s Haas also failed to reach the finish, while Rian’s race ended after contact with SV5, an incident Rian claimed was intentional and which brought out the first safety car.
With two rounds remaining at Belgium and Silverstone, the championship picture is tightening. Mejg still leads the standings, but SV5’s win brings him firmly into the conversation, while Jordan’s absence has reopened the door in the title fight. In the Constructors’, Racing Bulls are just two points short of securing the crown, but Mercedes, buoyed by another strong team performance, were once again named team of the week and are not giving up the chase.
Hungary delivered strategy, emotion, and a photo finish. With Spa and Silverstone still to come, Season 21 is far from decided...
