AA_MEJG TAKES BRAZIL GP WIN AS JORDAN CLINCHES SEASON 19 WDC CROWN
In a dramatic feature race at Interlagos – the only sprint weekend in A1881 history – AA_Mejg took a hard-earned victory for Aston Martin, followed by newly crowned Season 19 world champion Jordan in the Alpine, with NaeDangerDavid delivering another impressive Ferrari drive to claim third. The championship fight for P2 and P3 in the WDC remains alive, as does the battle for the Williams–Alpine WCC crown, heading into the Las Vegas finale...
The weekend began with Jordan taking the sprint win ahead of Mejg in a dominant low-drag, hard-tyre strategy display, the Alpine–Aston pairing finishing well clear of the rest. But in the feature race, starting from P5, Mejg quickly dispatched rivals, climbing to third within the first two corners. After chasing and passing Rian’s Williams by lap 4, he seemed in control, only to be briefly undercut by both Endru and Rian during the pit cycle. Showing the determination of a three-time champion, Mejg retook both positions and then managed the gap until the finish – with Jordan, ever the sportsman, relinquishing the lead in the closing laps to hand his long-time rival and friend the win.
“First of all, congrats to Jordan for winning the A1881 Season 19 drivers’ championship! Both me and Jordan went really low on wings and chose hards in the sprint where most went mediums, taking a convincing 1–2. In the main race, I had to fight hard after the undercut from Endru and Rian, but once I cleared them it was about gap management and tyre care. Jordan letting me through for the win means a lot – though of course the crown is even nicer for him. He’s been fast and consistent all season, and while I wanted a 4th straight title, I’m proud to see my brother bring it home,” Mejg said afterwards.
Jordan, who sealed his first A1881 title with one round to spare, reflected on a season of consistent dominance: “It feels good and a long time coming. Once I had the gap, I could relax and just enjoy it. Not too many downs this year, which is nice. I owed Mejg one from earlier in the season, so I let him have this one – but yeah, the crown’s definitely the bigger prize.”
Behind the top three, Williams had a solid points haul with Rian finishing fourth after his early lead faded, and Endru taking fifth to strengthen their WCC position. Javinwain brought his Red Bull home in sixth after battling hard with Rollie’s Alpine, which eventually took seventh. Dunce ensured both Aston Martins scored well in eighth, while Haas’s Bards came ninth, keeping the team ahead of KICK Sauber in the standings.
Mercedes’ Burtay, who had started from pole after a strong qualifying, slipped to tenth but still marked a respectable return. McLaren’s SCR_FTronc, back on the grid again, finished eleventh ahead of KICK Sauber’s Keon in twelfth. Ferrari’s PatrickMyler came home in thirteenth after a tough run from the back, just ahead of Kast1908’s McLaren and Cajoco in the other KICK Sauber, whose perseverance again drew respect given the team’s pace deficit this year.
Selecta endured a difficult day in his Red Bull to finish sixteenth, with Haas’s Crunchypancake in seventeenth, and Sir_Ibbo bringing the VisaRB home eighteenth. Despite no retirements, the race featured plenty of strategic gambles, undercuts, and close battles – all without the benefit of Ironghost’s trademark commentary, whose absence was felt by fans.
With one race remaining, the WDC podium positions are still in play between Endru, Mejg, and Rian. In the WCC, Williams’ 469 points keep them ahead of Alpine on 405, but Aston Martin’s 379 keeps them mathematically in the hunt for second. Ferrari and Red Bull are separated by just two points in the fight for fourth. The Las Vegas finale promises fireworks, even with the drivers’ title already decided...
