AA_MEJG TAKES SUZUKA GLORY AS VISA RB DOUBLE PODIUM SHAKES UP SEASON 20 TITLE FIGHT

After the chaos of Baku, where Jordan had claimed the win, Round 5 of Season 20 at Suzuka delivered one of the most controlled but still tense races of the season. AA_Mejg returned to form with victory in Japan, joined on the podium by Bards in the Williams and his VisaRB teammate Endru, completing a much-needed double podium for the team.

Mejg started from pole, but it was no runaway. Bards was glued to his gearbox for much of the first stint, even briefly leading after a sharp undercut. This was a valuable podium for Bards who never got what his pace deserves this season. Endru, starting deep in P16, carved his way through the field in a storming comeback drive, eventually climbing to the podium and adding crucial points to VisaRB’s championship charge. With Jordan absent from Suzuka, Mejg retook the championship lead, putting extra weight behind his quest for a fourth A1881 crown.

The Alpine garage nearly had something to celebrate too. Rollie looked set to challenge for the rostrum, but an early spin and a lightly damaged front wing dropped him down to P4. Still, it was one of his strongest showings of the season, a performance that will leave Alpine wondering what could have been.

Ferrari’s night was complicated but surprisingly fruitful. Gordini accidentally lined up in red instead of silver, meaning his strong P5 finish won’t help Mercedes but will instead boost Ferrari’s tally in the constructor fight. That twist adds extra spice to the already close battle between Ferrari and Mercedes in the midfield standings. Alongside him, Kast1908 also brought home points for Ferrari, making Suzuka one of their better combined weekends in a season full of ups and downs.

SCR_FTronc had one of his most composed outings yet in the RedBull, converting his solid P8 start into more valuable points. His teammate Inginne managed to finish as well, grabbing a lower points spot but most importantly beginning his streak of completing races on this notoriously tough circuit.

The Aston Martins had a mixed afternoon. Dunce, who has been steadily climbing the championship ladder, settled for P9 after fighting inside the top ten all race, while Selecta followed in P8. It wasn’t spectacular by their standards, but it kept Aston Martin comfortably in second in the WCC.

Alpine’s second car, Tvoje_mamkacz, drove a very good quali and quiet but steady race, crossing in the midfield and banking useful points for his team after a few tricky weekends. Mercedes had a more subdued round too, with Scaparro bringing his car home in the midfield on his reserve outing, giving the team some consistency as Keon missed the race.

The McLarens both survived a grueling Suzuka, with Crunchypancake and Sir Ibbo finishing nose-to-tail after staying clear of major incidents. Keeping it clean gave them valuable returns as usual.

Haas had a strong showing from reserve Tbran, who slotted in at P7 and impressed on debut, even if the points didn’t shake the standings much. His teammate SV5 was absent due to season ban and Rian for a failed playstation this round but their earlier efforts in the season left Haas still within reach of Ferrari and Mercedes in the WCC.

Two drivers, unfortunately, didn’t see the chequered flag. Javinwain retired early in the Williams, ending what could have been a strong double points haul for the team. Elche, on his A1881 debut for Kick Sauber, showed flashes of pace before things unraveled. His dog—yes, really—intervened mid-race, leading to spins and an eventual retirement in the pits after being lapped. It was a bizarre but memorable way to start a career, and surely he’ll be back with a calmer household next time.

The standings now look tighter than ever. Mejg leads the championship on 153, with Endru climbing into second at 129. Jordan, despite his absence, sits only six points back in third. Dunce’s consistency keeps him in the mix in fourth, while Rollie has broken clear of the midfield pack with his strong Suzuka drive.

In the Constructors, VisaRB extended their lead to 282 with the double podium, Aston Martin hold second on 165, and Kick Sauber’s missed opportunity with Jordan’s absence leaves them stuck on 146. Ferrari’s “accidental boost” from Gordini edges them up to 130, leapfrogging Mercedes on 107, and Alpine, Haas, Williams, RedBull, and McLaren all continue their midfield skirmishes.

“This win means quite a lot to me, because it's revenge for myself after crashing out in Baku with underbody damage last time out. Today's race at Suzuka, Japan saw me take pole position and leading the race until I boxed. Bards who had great pace today kept me on my toes the entire first stint (0,9 to 1,4 sec gap for 10 laps), and he was even ahead of me for two laps due to his undercut. Dunce showed us great sportsmanship when we caught him, and once I overtook Bards on stint 2 I built a gap of 3+ seconds and managed it all the way to the finish line where I once again could cheer with the VCARB boys! Great result with a double podium for the team as well.”

It was another exciting and memorable round in A1881 with one thing missing: Ironghost on comms. The action at Suzuka spoke for itself, but it never feels quite the same without his voice guiding us through the drama...

The excitement will continue with a %100 length tough Singapore GP next week!
