ENDRU SNATCHES DRAMATIC LAST-LAP WIN IN WET-DRY BELGIUM THRILLER
Endru delivered a stunning victory at Spa for Williams, securing his first win of the season after a chaotic 44-lap race that transitioned from dry to wet in the final stages. He narrowly beat Ferrari’s NaeDangerDavid and Aston Martin’s AA_Mejg, who stormed from the very back of the grid after serving what can be called a “mental quali ban” to finish third...
The Belgian Grand Prix began under dry skies, with NaeDangerDavid starting from pole and immediately defending hard. Endru, starting from P12, surged through the field, reaching second by lap five and managing his tires and fuel expertly. His early pace gave him a large advantage, but a mid-race safety car erased his 15-second lead. At the restart, Endru rebuilt a gap quickly but received a drive-through penalty that dropped him back. Determined to recover, he fought his way forward and reeled in David again—just as rain began to fall.
The late rain turned the race into a high-risk strategy battle. David opted to pit for intermediates with a handful of laps remaining, while Endru committed to staying on slicks, trying to cling to the lead despite rapidly deteriorating conditions. On the final lap, David caught and passed Endru on track, but a three-second penalty for the Ferrari driver handed the win back to the Williams man at the finish line.
“Did a big mistake in Q2 by not having time to use new softs, started P12 but I couldn’t let that slide so by the end of lap 5 I was in P2,” Endru said. “After that I did my best on fuel and tyre management and managed to get insanely good results so I had a massive tyre advantage and a 15 second gap behind but unfortunately a Safety Car came out. At the restart I pulled away by over 1 second per lap but I’m special so it’s not that simple so I got a drive through penalty to make things fun, after that I struggled to reach David in P1 and when I thought it couldn’t get worse, it did. Rain started hitting the track with 15 laps to go. I finally reached David after a while and he decided to pit for intermediates, I decided to stay out because at that point the track wasn’t ready for the switch yet and it would’ve meant giving up the win completely, so by that point I was dedicated to the strategy and had to make it work, by the end of lap 44 the track was soaking wet and I was losing more than 5 seconds per lap on the slicks so David managed to overtake me on the last lap but David’s 3 second penalty allowed me to snatch the win after a crazy, long race. Very nice way to win my first race this season. GG’s to everyone and good job to the podium finishers, especially to David who made this as hard as possible (now boss doesn’t want fire me from Williams anymore 😋).”
Behind the front two, Mejg carved his way from P20 to third, using the changing track conditions to his advantage. Red Bull’s Ironghost—stepping out of the commentary box and into the cockpit—put on a solid show, running in the podium fight until late rain shuffled him to fourth. Mercedes newcomer Kelsbrook impressed with fifth in his debut, while Mamoodev brought home strong points for Williams after an intense fight with Alpine’s Rollie who looked set for a possible top-four finish before the worsening rain compromised his pace.
Quartiux kept Mercedes’ tally steady with a measured drive, staying clear of major incidents and adapting to the slippery late-race conditions to secure important points for the team.
Further back, Dunce added more consistency for Aston Martin, while Keon led KICK Sauber’s effort ahead of teammate Cajoco to bring another impressive Top 10. Ferrari had both cars in the mix as Soufiane, on debut, supported David’s push for the win while wildcarding for Tarkan. Haas’s Bards recovered to finish ahead of Kast in the McLaren, while TSCRacing took more points after starting deep in the pack. Crunchypancake also finished but with limited pace, while Sir_Ibbo kept VisaRB classified as teammate Inginne joined Selecta in the retirements column.
In the championship standings, Jordan remains in the lead despite missing this round, but Endru’s win closes the gap significantly. Williams now have the advantage over Alpine in the Constructors’ standings, with Aston Martin keeping itself within reach. Red Bull and Ferrari also gained ground with strong team results.
Round 8 on Hungaroring now looms large as the title fight begins to tighten...
