SEASON 17 REVIEW WITH RIAN WIN AT SILVERSTONE!
Season 17 of A1881 has come to an end, with Aliens of Alpine dominating once more! The final round at Silverstone provided a fitting conclusion, with Rian taking a victory in Alpine's double podium finish together with champion Mejg to bring them WCC title. Bhavish filled podium in Mercedes after a strong drive...
The season kicked off with an intense opener, setting the tone for a highly competitive year. VisaRB, Aston Martin, and Williams all had strong showings early on, while Alpine made their intentions clear by delivering consistent performances. The likes of Endru, NaeDangerDavid, and Jordan established themselves as frontrunners, with Dunce and Bhavish also proving to be podium threats. Midfield battles raged between drivers like Selecta, Rollie, and Tvoje Mamkacz, while McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull fought to stay in the mix.
One of the standout moments of the season was the epic Austria GP, where a dramatic late safety car led to a breathtaking five-car sprint to the finish. Mejg capitalized on a stroke of fortune after his teammate Rian was taken out in an unfortunate incident with a backmarker. Rothnz showed flashes of his former self with an impressive second-place finish, while VisaRB’s duo of NaeDangerDavid and Endru delivered strong results, keeping the fight for second in the standings alive.
The Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort saw the longest race of the season, with its grueling 72-lap challenge. It turned into one of the most chaotic events in league history, with a record number of retirements. Mejg’s victory in the Netherlands sealed his championship with two races to go, capping off a season of dominant performances. Bhavish and Ironghost impressed with their climbs through the field, while Selecta made a last-lap overtake in front of his home crowd. Rothnz, ever the entertainer, provided another comical moment with a self-inflicted DNF.
Heading into the Silverstone finale, the spotlight was on the battle for second place in the championship, as Endru, NaeDangerDavid, and RothNz were locked in a tight contest. The race saw no safety cars or virtual safety cars, making it a pure test of pace and strategy. Rian, determined to end the season on a high note, led from the front and secured a victory, with teammate Mejg finishing right behind him. Bhavish edged out Rollie in a thrilling season-long rivalry, taking the final podium spot. Selecta was in the mix for the win until fuel mismanagement ended his hopes, while Endru fought back from a qualifying ban to finish sixth, securing his place as the runner-up in the championship ahead of NaeDangerDavid, bringing both medals to keep...
Elsewhere, Tvoje Mamkacz, Dunce, and Gordini rounded out strong seasons with solid results, while RothNz continued his streak of being both fast and amusing to watch. Javinwain showed improved consistency, and Sir Ibbo, Inginne, and Quartiux fought through the challenges to finish the race. Justin, unfortunately, ended his season with a DNF, while Crunchypancake was disqualified for failing to serve his qualifying ban.
With the season wrapped up, AA_Mejg reflected on his triumph: "As for the championship, I'm obviously very happy to claim my second world drivers' championship! It's been some tough races even though the numbers may indicate a different story. I've enjoyed the Alpine and had good pace all season. Every track this season has been tracks that I really enjoy (except for one). I want to thank A1881, Rollie, our commentator as well as all the racers for an enjoyable season! We all make this great league what it is, and I'm looking forward to next season."
Alpine dominated the Constructors’ Championship, sealing the title at Silverstone and finishing well ahead of VisaRB and Aston Martin. The battle for the midfield was just as intense, with Mercedes, Williams, and McLaren all fighting for position, while Ferrari, Red Bull, Haas, and KICK Sauber had moments of brilliance throughout the year.
With Season 17 in the books, all eyes now turn to Season 18. Car selection will take place this Wednesday, and the new season kicks off next Sunday in Australia, running alongside the real-world F1 opener.
