MEJG REIGNS IN CHINA AS ASTON MARTIN HOLDS ON TO WCC LEAD
Round 2 of A1881 Season 18 delivered another thrilling race, with AA_Mejg taking back-to-back victories after a commanding performance in China. Aston Martin’s Tvoje Mamkacz secured second place once again, while Ferrari’s Dunce continued his strong form, making it the same podium trio as the season opener.
Mejg started from pole position and maintained control for most of the race, but the two safety cars in the second half repeatedly bunched up the pack, keeping the pressure on him. However, after the final restart, he comfortably pulled away from the field and cruised to victory. Tvoje Mamkacz once again led Aston Martin’s charge, ensuring his team stayed on top of the Constructors' Championship. Dunce, who had been targeting his first win, showed strong pace and remained in the hunt throughout, securing yet another podium to stay tied with Tvoje in the championship standings.
PirkkaOnParas was undoubtedly the driver of the day, storming through the grid from 20th on the grid to finish fourth in his KICK Sauber. Despite driving the slowest car in the field, he managed to keep himself just ahead of Rollie, even while carrying a time penalty. Rollie, who finished fifth, once again delivered valuable points for Aston Martin.
Keon had a strong showing for Haas, finishing sixth after avoiding trouble and capitalizing on the safety car phases. Javinwain rebounded from a tough opener in Australia, climbing from 19th on the grid after his quali ban, to take seventh for Ferrari. TarkanGino followed in eighth for Mercedes, securing his second top ten finish.
Ironghost, the legendary comms, took the wheel for McLaren and impressed with a composed drive to ninth. Varea, in his first race of the season, rounded out the top ten for VisaRB, navigating the chaos of the midfield battles to bring valuable wildcard points to Jordan.
Gordini finished 11th, making it both VisaRBs inside the top twelve, while Bhavish and Rothnz had a mixed day for Williams, coming home in 12th and 13th respectively. Rothnz was part of one of the most exciting battles of the race, trading places multiple times with Crunchypancake and Sir Ibbo. Ibbo’s brilliant switchback on Rothnz in the final sector was a highlight of the race, but in the end, Rothnz managed to come out ahead...
Inginne finished 14th for Red Bull, followed by Sir Ibbo, who claimed 15th for McLaren. Crunchypancake crossed the line in 16th, having been part of those thrilling battles with RothNz and Ibbo.
Four drivers failed to finish the race, beginning with NaeDangerDavid, who retired after an incident in the second half. Selecta’s unlucky streak continued, as he was once again dnfed while battling for the win, on a venue where he got his first and only career win. Alpine’s Endru left Mejg without support with an unlucky dnf, while KICK Sauber’s Scott failed to see the checkered flag despite reaching Q3 while wildcarding Rian...
After two rounds, Aston Martin continues to lead the Constructors' Championship, with Alpine and Ferrari in close pursuit. The season is shaping up to be an intense fight, with multiple drivers already showing strong pace and consistency.
