AA_MEJG CLINCHES SECOND CONSECUTIVE TITLE IN CHAOTIC DUTCH GP
The Netherlands Grand Prix at Zandvoort delivered a dramatic, attritional race, with only nine drivers making it to the checkered flag in what was one of the highest DNF counts in league history. Despite the chaos, AA_Mejg secured his second consecutive championship title in dominant fashion, taking victory in a grueling 72-lap race. Mercedes double followed him in podium with Bhavish ahead of Ironghost...
Starting from pole, the Alpine driver had a near-flawless performance, handling entering of SC mid race beautifully. His teammate Rian, however, suffered a disappointing early retirement after struggling at the very circuit he had chosen for this round, adding to Alpine’s mixed emotions on the day...
Bhavish produced a stunning drive, carving his way through the field from P15 to secure a well-earned second place for Mercedes. Meanwhile, wildcard driver and commentator-turned-racer Ironghost put on an impressive show, finishing third and bringing crucial points to Mercedes while standing in for Tvoje Mamkacz.
Selecta, the home hero, put on a spectacular performance for the Dutch fans, securing fourth place after a breathtaking last-lap overtake. Dunce, who had strong pace all race, had to manage fuel concerns but still held on to an important fifth place for Aston Martin.
Jordan, adapting to racing on a pad instead of his usual wheel, managed a solid sixth-place finish despite being off his usual pace. Javinwain, bouncing back from his previous DNF, broke his unlucky streak and crossed the line in seventh, officially shedding the eggplant curse. Crunchypancake and Sir_Ibbo were among the few drivers who survived the chaos to round out the top nine.
Among the ten drivers who failed to finish, NaeDangerDavid retired in frustration over the behavior of lapped cars during a safety car restart. RothNz suffered an amusing yet costly self-inflicted crash. Keon and Rollie’s race ended prematurely after an unlucky tangle left both their cars undriveable, forcing them to retire in the pits. Quartiux, Inginne, and TarkanGino also saw their races cut short, while Justin and Valward couldn't avoid the fate that befell half the grid.
AA_Mejg said in his short post-race response: “I feel this one on my shoulders after pushing quite hard for that many laps on Zandvoort.”
With two races still left on the calendar, AA_Mejg’s title is now secured, but the battles for position in both the drivers' and constructors’ standings are far from over. The next stop: Silverstone GP, where the fight continues!
