AA_MEJG TRIUMPHS IN IMOLA AS A1881 SEASON 17 KICKS OFF
The A1881 League roared into action with a thrilling opener at Imola, with champion Mejg on top and VisaRB filling the podium with Endru and David...
Reigning champion AA_Mejg delivered a commanding performance to take the top spot in his Alpine. His victory marks a strong start to his title defense as he seeks to replicate last season’s triumph.
"A great start to the season for sure! The car felt good around Imola and even though I knew it would be challenging, I carried confidence from last season's victory. Both qualifying and the race showed that we'll have even more drivers fighting for the top spots (alongside 'the big five' from season 16), which is very interesting. Was surprised that I got pole without practicing. Having just one lap before the rain appeared in Q3 gave quali that little extra excitement in my opinion. Anyway, I enjoyed battling with Mirko and David lap after lap, it was sad to see them collide on the last lap. Good race that I'll enjoy watching with commentary!" said AA_Mejg in a post-race interview.
Joining AA_Mejg on the podium were VisaRB drivers Endru and NaeDangerDavid, who showcased impressive teamwork to secure second and third place, respectively. Their performance gives VisaRB a substantial boost in the constructors’ standings after the first race of the season.
The race was packed with drama, starting with a tense battle between NaeDangerDavid and Mirko’s Ferrari. A last-lap incident at Turn 1 saw both drivers tangle, costing them crucial positions. Mirko ultimately settled for fourth, narrowly missing out on a podium finish.
Williams’ Jordan claimed fifth place after a steady and determined drive, making the most of opportunities presented by the chaos ahead. His teammate Sir Ibbo, however, had a less fortunate outing, finishing in 18th after a tough race.
Rian brought home the second Alpine in sixth place, adding valuable points to Alpine’s constructors’ tally and complementing AA_Mejg’s victory. Meanwhile, Aston Martin duo Dunce and Rothnz secured seventh and eighth positions, demonstrating a solid team effort and consistency.
Selecta, driving for McLaren, navigated a challenging race to finish ninth, while Slowfiveohh completed the top ten for RedBull after a fierce battle through the midfield.
Ferrari’s Rollie crossed the line in eleventh, a result marred by incidents involving Tvoje Mamkacz and Justin earlier in the race. Both drivers struggled with on-track mishaps, leaving Tvoje’s Mercedes in twelfth and Justin’s Sauber in seventeenth.
NbaMj, substituting for Keon, delivered a commendable performance for RedBull, finishing thirteenth. Quartiux, making his debut in place of Bhavish, secured fourteenth place in his Mercedes.
Crunchypancake and TarkanGino piloted their Haas entries to fifteenth and sixteenth, respectively, contributing vital experience and data for their team as they look to improve in future races.
Gordini’s McLaren managed nineteenth, while his teammate Selecta earned a strong points finish. Gordini’s McLaren faced mechanical troubles with his wheel, while Inginne was disqualified for parking in a dangerous location after attempting to give way to drivers following a spin.
With an action-packed opener in the books, the constructors’ championship sees VisaRB take an early lead with 61 points, narrowly ahead of Alpine’s 60 points, thanks to strong podium showings by Endru and NaeDangerDavid. with strong podium showings by Endru and NaeDangerDavid positioning them as formidable contenders.
The A1881 League now looks ahead to the second round in Portugal, where teams will have another chance to assert their dominance and drivers will aim to climb the standings. If the Imola GP is any indication, fans can expect another captivating display of racing action.
